My tiny travel kit

I have been doing a number of studies and experiments in my sketchbook which I may add at some stage, but for now, here's a sketch of one of my tiny travel kits. I have a little palette, a pencil, a water-brush, a travel brush and a kneadable eraser with me all the time. I then take a pocket notebook or watercolour sketchbook and I'm set for anything I may come across while I am out and about.

My very portable watercolour travel kit, painted in a Stillman & Birn Alpha landscape sketchbook.

Next up is a study of my full plein air kit. I also use this for my teaching and there is quite a bit in it so it will take more doing!

July 2014 update
Here is the case I use, from Moleskine. The small multi-purpose hard shell.

  2. Love your work Jane. I have one those tiny palettes, carry it all the time though I prefer to use a brush and water rather than the aquabrush.

    1. They are lovely Ray. I think it was quite a challenge when I asked John to make a really tiny palette, but I think he did an awesome job and they are now selling very well. My favourite brush with this palette is the Isabey squirrel that I painted - it has a wonderful tip but hold a surprising amount of paint. However I do find that if I need to be very quick or stand to paint something the water brush is very convenient as you obviously don't need a water pot anywhere. Good in museums!

    1. Hi Shelley. It is made by Moleskine, and comes in a range of colours and sizes. Search for Moleskine multi-purpose hard shell.

    1. They come in a couple of sizes. Specialist photography shops are another place to find practical protective cases.
