Watercolour Swatches on my website.

I have been making painted swatches of all the watercolours I have tried and am finally adding them to my website.

Each swatch is as pictured - with a coloured wash into wet paper, then a 'juicy' wash on dry paper below

You can see them here. Click on any swatch to see the full card. Hover to see the paint name, manufacturer and pigment number.

There are hundreds to go but I have made a start. If there is a colour you hope to see, let me know and I'll add it if I have it.

Paint samples to add are also welcome :-) Contact me here.

  1. Wow, Jane. Your Web site and blog are such amazing resources! I've been spending a lot of time here lately, studying your swatches, charts, color wheels, and color palettes. I don't know where you find the time, but I'm grateful that you do!

    1. Thank you Susan. It will take a very long time to add all the swatches I have done over the last 2 years or so, but it seems a shame to have them sitting in a box when they could be helpful to others. They are not perfect, especially the difficult oranges and warm reds, but I think it is helpful to be able to see different brands and pigments side by side :-)

  2. I love how your website looks! It's very apt for an artist such as yourself. You even included a search feature, something that's usually missed by many people. It's also good that you included your social media accounts on every page, so that prospective clients know where to easily contact you. Having a website as good as this surely helps in getting more people to know about your craft. Cheeers!

  3. Jane, you inspired me! I spent the last few days painting swatch cards of all the colors I have. Wow, I have a lot!
What a great idea, though. It was a really helpful project making me much more familiar with the colors I own.
I went to my local Staples store and had them laminated, trimmed the swatches & punched a hole in each one. Now I have three large book rings filled with the swatches, organized by color.
Thank you for educating & inspiring us!

    1. Good on you Carol. It is really helpful to be able to refer to them quickly and easily. It takes time to do but is worth it :-)

  4. Jane, this is just a heads up for you to double check your "pure yellow, Schincke" card which has both 153 and 154 as the color number.
This work is truly inspiring and emphasizes how it behooves each of us to do our own color studies, comparing each member of each family of hues and then do some mixing trials. Thanks for your generosity in sharing with us.

    1. Thank you Jo. It is great to have people spotting the mistakes. I am sure there are more. And some that I still have to look up the pigment numbers. Pure Yellow should be PY154. I'll change it.
