Fra Angelico blue pigment extraction - no wonder genuine lapis lazuli paint was expensive
This is quite a long video but well worth watching if you want to know why they needed to develop Ultramarine pigment :-)
Makes you wonder how someone came up with the idea of making a clay to extract the pigment! No wonder artists needed an apprenticeship and had assistants.
Wow, that was fascinating. So much work, but such a beautiful color.
